Directed by Amber McGinnis and featuring a grounded performance from Maria Rodriguez-Sager, this production is shocking, honest, refreshing and raw. Adapted for the stage by Nia Vardalos and running through April 23 at Theatrical Outfit, Tiny Beautiful Things is a delicate yet brave play telling the stories of people who wrote to advice columnist “Dear Sugar” and the depths to which Cheryl Strayed plunged in order to help them. It’s much harder to open ourselves up when we have to look someone in the eye and witness their reaction.

There is something therapeutic about writing a letter, especially when done under the veil of anonymity.
